Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum Toxins belong to a group known as neuromodulators, since these are injections which alter the signals from the nerves. Botox (onabotulinumtoxin A) ,as it is known commonly, is a brand name of a neuromodulator; other commonly used ones are Dysport and Xeomin. The action of all these is to temporarily block the action of the muscles in which these are injected, to help decrease the unwanted facial wrinkles. Botulinum toxins can smooth crow’s feet, forehead furrows, frown lines, lip lines and bunny lines, diminish neck bands, correct a gummy smile and lift the corners of the mouth to improve the ”sad looking “ appearance. It can also be used for certain other therapeutic indications such as strabismus, spasms, tics, hyperhidrosis and facial balancing in patients with facial nerve palsy.
