Buttock Augmentation

Buttock Augmentation

Buttock augmentation is the procedure to enhance the size of the gluteal region to give it a more shapely profile. The procedure has gained popularity over the last few years, with many patients desiring for a more youthful and enhanced shape to the buttocks. The procedure can be done with Fat Grafting- where the patient’s own body fat is injected into the gluteal region, popularly known as the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) or with Silicone Implants. Some patients, particularly those with significant fluctuations in weight or due to aging, have poor tissue elasticity causing sagging of the buttocks, which requires a Buttock Lift procedure.

About the Procedure

The procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia. The nature of procedure performed depends on a number of factors including the patient’s body habitus, patient desire, age, tissue structure etc. Buttock augmentation with fat grafting, or BBL, is performed by harvesting fat from the abdomen or thighs, processing it and infiltrating it into the gluteal region, through very small incision sites. In patients who require Implant placement, an incision is made in the buttock or sacrum region, pocket created for the implant and implant placement done.

Though there have been recent concerns about the safety of the procedure, a procedure performed by a qualified Plastic Surgeon minimizes the chances of these complications.

Candidates for the Procedure

Patients who are physically healthy and feel that their butt is too small compared to their body frame, or a buttock that is too flat and the patient desires a fuller and rounder butt are candidates for the procedure. Patients who have had massive weight loss or due to the aging process feel that their buttock has a “deflated” look may also be candidates for the procedure.

After The Surgery

The patient is advised to wear a support garment round the clock for a few months after the surgery. The patient is advised to sleep prone or on the sides so as to not put pressure or weight over the fat grafted areas for about 3 weeks. There are also restrictions on sitting in the first 10-14 days except while using the toilet. The gluteal region is sore for a few days after the surgery and the final results are visible once the swelling is gone.
