BREAST AUGMENTATION

Breast augmentation is the surgical procedure to enhance the size of the breasts in females, with implants, fat grafting or a combination of both. The surgery helps restore breast volume which may have been lost after weight reduction or pregnancy, or improve natural breast size in underdeveloped breasts.Breast implants are available in various sizes, shapes and textures depending on the patient’s desire and body structure. About the procedure

The procedure is performed under General anesthesia and incisions are made in inconspicuous areas to minimize visible scarring. Choice of implant depends on a number of factors including patient’s desire, existing breast volume and cup size, chest width, amount of skin laxity and nipple position. Based on these variables an appropriate size implant is chosen and inserted in a pocket created in the chest. The incision is then closed in layers with self-dissolving sutures.

The procedure may be combined, in some patients, with fat transfer harvested from the patient’s own body, to enhance the result in certain areas such as better upper pole fullness or a better cleavage definition.

Candidates for the Procedure

The procedure is ideally suited for patients who feel that their breast size is naturally small and poorly developed. The procedure may also be indicated in patients who have asymmetrical breast size,although minor variation in the size of both breasts is present in many patients. Besides these, the procedure may also be indicated in patients with massive weight loss , which has changed the shape and size of their breasts.

After the surgery

Although some patients may complain of slight soreness at the operated site, they are up and about in around a day’s time.The patient is advised to use a sports bra regularly for 4-6 weeks.
