Blepharoplasty in simplest terms is surgery of the eyelid. With the highly stressful demands in today’s world, many patients complain of tired looking eyes, sad eyes or baggy eyes giving a prematurely aged look. Blepharoplasty is a procedure to help correct these incongruities giving the eyes and the face a refreshed look.
About the procedure
Surgery for eyelid enhancement is usually a day care procedure and can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both. It can be done under Local anesthesia or General Anesthesia. A number of techniques are available and are customized according to the specific anatomic problems identified in the patient. Under anesthesia, the excess skin is trimmed off, the bulging fat bags removed and the eyelids tightened to give a more youthful look.
Candidates For The Procedure
Patients should be in good physical and mental health with reasonable care. With many patients deciding to have the surgery performed at an early age as it is one of the first features of the face to show signs of aging, age is no longer a criteria for the procedure. Patients with symptoms like tired or worn out, sad ,or prematurely aged looking eyes may be a candidate for the procedure.
After the surgery
Some swelling and bruising around the eyelids is expected after the procedure for variable periods ranging from 10-14 days. As these subside the patient notices the rejuvenation that gives a more youthful appearance of eyelids. Over the course of the next few weeks, the result continues to improve till the eyelids are soft, supple and have a refreshed look
